From 27 to 30 June 2019, the festival “Hanseatic Days” will take place in Pskov, which will become the 39th event of this kind, while the Russian Federation will act as its organizer only for the second time. The event will be dedicated to the most durable international trade and economic union in the world, approved in the middle of the 12th century and continuing to exist in the updated version until today. What goals today are putting at the head of this historical association, and why for the next celebration did the representatives of the Hansa choose Pskov in 2019?

The Hansa, which emerged as an economic and political formation, existed for 5 and a half centuries until the 1650s. Its objectives throughout the period remained unchanged — this is the maintenance of trade relations between the participating states, represented mainly by north-western Europe, and the mutual granting of privileges and relaxation in this area in a special document, the Great Hanseatic Statute. In essence, the union was almost an empire, because it had an impact on the foreign policy situation, acquired forts, contributed to the oligarchy. For all the time about 200 European cities joined the union, over 100 of which were port cities.

The Hanseatic League of New Time continues to promote and develop the ideas of its medieval «ancestor». Participating countries are doing everything to: strengthen contacts in the areas of trade, tourism and culture; successfully share with each other knowledge about the investment potential of different places; promote more active development of cities with a unique history and acquaint them with as many people as possible.

The leadership of New Hansa has long been planning to hold a festival in this Russian city. The choice of European colleagues was enthusiastically supported by the President of Russia, who considered a large settlement a place with a rich history, at the same time not lagging behind reality and retaining its economic relevance. In the Middle Ages, crafts and merchants were actively developing here, in the Soviet period industrial capacity was in full swing — now is the time for modernity with its competitive base, small and medium business and entrepreneurship!
